Jack Henderson’s full speech to the Scottish Hostellers Canoe Club in 198? covers many areas of paddling in 1930’s – 1950’s, and topics familiar to paddlers and clubs today. He covered many of the early pioneers, some who were in the audience that night.
He talks about buying an early ‘timber canoe’ starting on Loch Lomond, others joining him; hiking the hills and helping ‘Red Clydesiders’ who lived up there; the war, boat design, getting a photographer along through false pretences; regatta’s by an ‘intrusive’ club from Edinburgh (Forth Canoe Club) etc
